12 POWER INDUSTRY AWARDS - THE CP&De Conference & Exhibition
UK-BASED GREEN FROG GENOVATE ENERGY COMPANY WINS INNOVATION AWARD
Green Frog Genovate received its
Innovation Award at the CP&De formal Dinner on April 18th. The Award follows hard on the heels of another token of excellence - in 2017 the ACHILLES Registrar recommended GF Genovate Company for registration onto their enhanced pre-qualification scheme used by the utilities sector. The accreditation is an UVDB which makes it easier for companies in the sector to assess and manage their supply chain risks and ensure that best practices are adopted. The audit focuses on Quality, Environment, Health Safety within a business. Alan Dempsey, Managing Director of GF Genovate, commented: “We were proud and excited about our ACHILLES certification which essentially proves the technical competence of our electrical engineers and ensures that they are competent and capable of meeting the relevant technical and safety standards, codes of practice and rules of the Schemes we are registered to. It is believed that approximately 90% of local authori- ties in the UK restrict work to NICEIC contractors on safety grounds. We are continually seeking ways to ensure our customers that the quality service and products received from GF Genovate are the very best,"
WOMEN IN POWER - THE 1ST CONFERENCE ELEMENT OF ITS KIND IN THE UK
Judith Packer, CEng MIMechW
introduced and hosted WOMEN IN POWER, one of the four major Conference streams at the CP&De Conference & Exhibition in Coventry this month. “I was delighted to host the inaugural
Women In Power Conference stream this year, supported by Aimee Slater Electrical Engineer from GHD and winner of our Young Engineer award,” comments Judith Packer. “Our sponsor, Mecc Alte, was invited to speak on the areas where women technicians and engineers work within the business and about their desire to see this grow in company. “Day 1 reflected on the parallels between Electrical Power and Human Power; how the electrical power industry has evolved and is, in fact, going through a further revolution and that we also need to make the most our of our ‘human power’. “ Mini workshop talks were presented by Ami McQuarrie of Momentum Incorporated Ltd and Jayne Little of Skills4UK. Melanie Jackson presented on the diversity work which is ongoing within National Grid and the group enjoyed an informal networking group discussion with Petra, Stella and Hazlan who were presenting in other streams on technical topics, making this a truly International Women In Power conference. Day 2 commenced with Teresa
Boughey of Jungle HR who tackled the hugely relevant issue of ‘Closing the Gender Pay Gap’ and then the Winner of the Women in Power Stream award took the floor. Lore Grohmann, Marketing Director of Wilson Power Solutions shared the story of how the Wilson e2 amorphous transformer, not only
Worldwide Independent Power April 2018
transformed the company but also is contributing to significantly improved electrical efficiency and reduced costs for its end user clients and thus also significantly contributing to lower carbon emissions. Attendees also enjoyed technical talks
on electric vehicles and grid challenges by Elaine Meskhi of EA Technology, heat pumps with case studies by Laura Bishop of Infinitas Design and the event closed with an inspiring and challenging talk by Dr Jan Maskell on her experiences living in an Eco Living community and how people can challenge their behaviours to make a significant, but perhaps untapped reduction, to their own carbon footprints. Judith packer concludes: “With so many talented and inspiring speakers in our industry, I am sure that we can aim for 50% women speakers in all streams for future conferences. “I would like to also extend a special thanks to Katherine Erickson – President of Oxford University Women’s Boat Club, whose DPhil in History has taken her to remote parts of Uganda where power is definitely a scarcity and valued resource, who spoke at the start of our conference dinner about her experiences much of which we can also lean from; over £400 was collected in donations for Cancer Research as a result after the awards dinner.”
