FLOYD’SDOG GROOMING ~WHY DOES MY DOG LOVE TO SMELL SO BAD? ~

Lots of dog’s love to roll in carcasses and the faeces of other animals, which is very unpleasant for owners and most of us who own dogs have had to try to wash the smell off before letting them back in the house.

It is very difficult to stop your dog from rolling in these stinky substances whilst out on a walk. It is thought that they do it to disguise their own scent, which is what their ancestors would have had to do in the days when they hunted for their food.

However, times have changed Fluffy dog, we don’t like the smell of fox poo brought into our homes thank you very much!

The best way to try to avoid the dreaded smelly, greasy neck/back/neck/back/all Fluffy, is to keep a close eye on them whilst out walking. Have a good recall response and if they are sniffing at an area for longer than usual, call them and distract with treats, a toy and loads of praise until you pass the offending item.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t always work and when Fluffy comes running past you looking ever so pleased

Owner of the Keswick company Andrew Matthews said: “We’re taking the cakes on a tour, sharing with many of the Cumbrian campsites that are favourites of our hire customers.

“Many of our guests are from the local area and take our iconic vehicles to all parts of the UK but hirers also come from far and wide to enjoy the delights of The Lake District. The campervans force a slower pace of travel, where the pleasure of the journey matters as much as reaching the destination. You can see over walls and hedges, stop to admire views and even smell the coffee!”

The business has grown from an initial three vehicles to the full rainbow of seven today, including two 1960s splitscreen campers. Each van has its own character and capacity ranging from 2 berth ‘Harry’ to 6 berth ‘Daisy’ and some customers are working their way through the entire fleet, hiring a different campervan each trip.

The Rainbow Campers have their celebrity following too, with several famous hirers, a feature on Radio 4 and television appearances alongside Ellie Harrison on Countryfile, comedian Marcus Brigstocke

on the Tech Show and local chef Peter Sidwell for Lakes on a Plate.

with him/herself and a faint whiff of rotting sheep/fox poo/fish is following them, then the best thing to do is to give them a bath using a good quality dog shampoo. There are ones especially designed to rid the smell of fox poo and people say that tomato ketchup works before shampooing but I haven’t tried these.

If all else fails, you could always make an appointment to have your dog bathed and pampered by me and they will leave smelling beautiful... until next time!

If you would like a chat about your dogs grooming requirements, or to make an appointment give me a call on 07746 485 330.
