ALL THE LATEST NEWS, VIEWS AND STORIES FROM AROUND YOUR LOCAL AREA:APRIL/MAY

ALLERDALE

The Allerdale MS Society is proud to announce it has been shortlisted for an award as Best MS Group and two group members will be travelling to County Hall in London for the MS Awards 2018 on the 27th April.

The group was nominated because of what it offers and supports in this area, despite our rural remoteness and the difficulties that brings. One quarter of our budget is used towards adapted community transport to get our members and family to our groups and activities.

Social, emotional wellbeing and being ‘The best you can’, is our focus and this makes a difference through innovation, utilising limited resources in the area and developing new opportunities. We currently offer two weekly exercise groups, including yoga, exercise delivered by a social enterprise company specialising in providing the groups' needs and physiotherapy exercise. We have a monthly lunch group, three annual dinners, including our Annual Meeting, day trips visiting local garden centres, shopping centres and seaside trips! We visit the Calvert Trust to support weekend outdoor activities, which includes water sport, horse and horse and carriage riding, wall climbing and trekking to name just a few. We are looking forward to accessing the new Tramper at Whinlatter but more of that in the next edition!

The quality and content of our MS quarterly newsletter has been highlighted as good practice and is available in community venues.

The team who support the Group (formerly known as committee) are focused and dedicated. We now have new Admin and Finance volunteers and a Group co-ordinator (formerly Chair). The team has a mix of members with and without MS and always attend the local forums, enabling engagement in the ‘bigger picture’.
