KEEPING YOU IN TOUCH - YOUR FREE MONTHLY NEWSPAPER DELIVERED DOOR-TO-DOOR FOR 31 YEARS
Our community of western artists is still small, but we look forward to growing and showing more work in future events around Cockermouth and the West Coast, including in the EVAN WEST County Arts Trail, from 16th - 24th June.
Meanders
Spring is exciting, and everything seems ready for new growth. As the days get longer, it’s a great time to meander through the fells and different towns, investigating new places.
The Cockermouth Live! event is taking place from 29th June - 1st July and this year, it will feature visual artists as well as musicians. So, Cockermouth will become an exhibition and the gallery will be the shop windows. This exhibition ‘Meanders’ begins on 22nd June and lasts for one week only. The exhibition is linked to a new art installation at the ‘confluence’ of the two rivers - created by fine artist/environmentalist David Haley. His artwork will be a place to meander, sit, meet friends and view the rivers. David will also put work on display in the shop windows, enlightening us as to concepts behind the riverbank ‘Confluence’ piece.
The cafes will be buzzing and strumming, with the live music events and some will be showing artwork.
I will have work on show in the ‘Shoe Shop’ window which will tie in with the idea of creative flow, showing a few of my Tango and column Fashion illustrations inside the shop. There will be ceramics in the opticians and a variety of paintings, from the ironmongers, to the underwear shop, with an artist painting in the Art and Craft Shop. The event introduces Cockermouth to the members of an artistic network in West Cumbria. This is a new Allerdale and Copeland branch of the established Eden Valley Artistic Network (EVAN). Some of the EVAN WEST Artists, Sarah Ames, Lucy Hughes, Emma Wiggington and myself will be offering community textile workshops at the Kirkgate over the weekend, including embroidery, beading and up- cycling of clothing. Visit us and see the Lantern Festival’s Cockerfish in the Kirkgate ‘Confluence’ exhibition.
The retailers have been very accommodating, showing pieces of artwork in their windows, so I would just like to thank those taking part and apologise to those we never got around to asking.
