DANCING AROUND THE COUNTRY!

COCKERMOUTH SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCE CLUB

Members have been dancing all over the country in recent weeks. We danced in Penrith, Longtown, Wetheral, Windermere, Oban, Dumfries, Scarborough and Helensburgh.

Adult classes continue until the end of May, with our AGM on 17th May.

In July, we shall be taking part again in COCKERMOUTH LIVE! so look out for times and venue details. Do join us as no previous dance experience is needed.

From July, do look out for our banner at Goodfellow Tyres,

when you are in the car park at Sainsbury’s. It gives details of our classes which start again in September. We would love to welcome lots of new members, of all ages.

Frequently, images transmitted to our homes from far off lands, of people suffering unimaginable tragedy through poverty, war, homelessness, hunger or disease are often just too overwhelming for us to take in. Often, we feel there is very little that we can do and sometimes we have little trust in those who say they can. PovertySwap is a local charity which was founded by Cockermouth couple Helen and Ian Faulds in 2010 with exactly those thoughts in mind.

GIRLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN! ~ DERWENT GIRLGUIDING COCKERMOUTH & KESWICK ~

At our Rainbow units the girls have fun whilst developing their confidence, building new friendships and learning different things. There are always exciting things to do at Rainbows. We especially like to play games, cook, earn badges, go outside, complete crafts and sing songs. We also enjoy trips and have parties.

“I like going to Rainbows because we do different activities every week, crafts and games are fun. It’s great taking Olivia (the mascot doll) home and taking her on adventures too!”

Lucy

“Rainbows has been a very positive experience for our daughter. It encourages independence in a safe environment with a great variety of activities, something different every week. She loves working towards badges and having trips out.”

but had few resources and those who had resources but didn’t know the need. We made the assumption, that if we could connect all those people, there may well be transformation amongst the world’s poorest people.

We spent months in India and encountered a father with his small son on the street sharing the one mouthful of bread they had acquired between them. We stood in the African sun and wondered what it would be like to spend your whole life just collecting enough water to keep your family alive until the next day!

“With those images on our soul, we realised it takes very little to change something. We began to meet other people too! Those who longed to help

“Since then, and because we send 100% of all donations directly to our trusted partners, people in Cumbria have been able to transform the lives of some of the most vulnerable people on Earth.”

Women in Ethiopia receive business grants and training, thereby establishing long term benefit for their vulnerable families. Small children get access to nursery education in rural areas where there was never opportunity to go to school. Senior students can complete their education and access further education through our student sponsorships. Family workers ease the load of families in the harsh Eastern European mountain ranges. In Nepal emergency aid provides homes, clothing and food while children
