WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND? I started out 30 years ago as an engineer working for automotive and manufacturing organisations. I progressed into strategic marketing, business development and consultancy working for a range of enterprises, fitting in an MBA along the way.

WHAT DOES YOUR COMPANY DO? Marketing In Control helps B2B organisations manage customer retention more efficiently by optimising the resources, tools and processes needed to deliver customer satisfaction. Client services and operations managers face a real problem of how to maintain customer satisfaction while developing capability and capacity to support a growing customer base. We help companies develop the tools and processes needed to deliver customer value more efficiently.


HOW DID IT ALL START? Our name reflects our origins in the process control industry. The company has evolved considerably since then: our ethos now is applying marketing tools to give companies better control of strategic relationships, anticipating and planning for changing expectations rather than being buffeted by customer whims.


WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR? We’ve been working on a new framework to make customer retention cheaper and easier by managing the alignment between value proposition, operations and customer expectations.


WHAT IS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU’VE EVER TAKEN – AND DID IT WORK OUT? Taking time away from revenue generation over the past two years to think about our value proposition, doing research on customer relationship management and leveraging my own experience of customer retention to develop new, innovative approaches. Did it work? Watch this space!


WHICH COMPANY DO YOU MOST ADMIRE? Intel for their ground-breaking “Intel Inside” marketing campaign in the 1990s, which highlighted a common problem where the real factors that differentiate a product or service are invisible.


WHAT EXCITING PROJECTS ARE YOUR BUSINESS WORKING ON? We are bringing our new customer retention model to market in 2018! We are launching two new workshops: one for client services managers responsible for customer retention and customer satisfaction, and a second on internal business value for business transformation teams.


WHAT MADE YOU JOIN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE CHAMBER? The breadth of expertise across the membership and the willingness to share ideas and advice. In the short time I’ve been attending networking events I’ve learned a great deal from the business leaders I’ve met, which has sparked ideas that I hope will develop into opportunities for collaboration with other members.
