A Message From Our Executive Director Dear Residents:

I am so excited to introduce this year’s theme, “Branch Out, Batavia!” We want to motivate and inspire you to plant your potential and watch it grow. In choosing the annual theme, we consider input from residents, Park District staff, and other wellness experts. The offered programs and this Fun Guide are a product of countless hours of effort, focused on you, our community. We strive to choose activities and events, and communicate those in a way that resonates — which will give YOU, our Batavia Park District resident— the itch to pick up this guide and explore the world inside.

There are so many ways to branch out! In flipping through these pages you will see that our recreation team has done a fabulous job offering fresh and innovative programming options for people of all ages. Starting with the winter season, and continuing throughout the year, we have lots of ideas to help your family branch out and do something new. Are you feeling like a stuffed turkey and want to fit into your New Year’s Eve clothes? Drop into a fitness class for just $6 (page 33). Do you need to get out of the house and escape the winter doldrums? Volunteer at the Depot Museum’s gift shop (page 46). Do you have leadership skills? Consider stepping up to the plate as a Board Member of our Parks Foundation (page 52).

Our first special event of 2018 is called POST to Present and will be held at the Depot Pond on January 6 (page 4). Enjoy open skate on the Depot Pond as the Batavians did in the 1950s on the front cover of the Saturday Evening Post. If you’re feeling nostalgic, sign up for the Carry Nation Temperance Rally & Bar Smashing event on March 29 before it sells out (page 9). Don’t forget your furry friend, the Park District is now hosting Pet Birthday Pawties! Two hours of activities (yes, for the pets!), enrichment toys, pack walks and more (page 54).

When you’re looking to be active, learn something new, get involved, and branch out, think of us first! We strive to be your #1 recreation provider.

Happy Holidays to You and Yours!

Allison Niemela, CPRP Executive Director
