Village News PUMPKIN PARTY!
ALVECHURCH IS getting ready to go pumpkin crazy, as the countdown to the village’s first-ever Pumpkin Festival is under way! Taking place on Saturday October
28 at Alvechurch Village Hall, the family event gives villagers the chance to show off their pumpkins. You might be growing one in your garden, you may want to carve a design into a shop-bought one, or get crafty and enter some pumpkin art such as a painting, a sculpture or even a crochet pumpkin. More than 100 pupils at
Alvechurch Middle School submitted ideas for the festival’s logo, with the winning design to be turned into a badge and given out to all entrants at the festival. A top entry was picked from each year group, before Darcey McNeill from Year 6 was chosen as
Learning to save a life
A MORNING’S training in how to use the new defibrillator mounted outside Hopwood Community Centre was given by Rob Underwood of the charity Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts – named after two of his children who died from a heart condition. Rob wants more people to learn how they could save a life with a defibrillator, as swift treatment is vital.

Busking bonanza
BARNT GREEN held its first Busking Festival in August, with local musicians from a variety of genres (such as duo Harriet & Tom, above) entertaining shoppers and residents. Refresh- ments were provided by Meadow Farm Butchers and Village Vineyards. With an audience of up to 70 people, the
event was declared a big success. Bromsgrove District Council and Artrix, who backed the fes- tival, have already sourced funding for a repeat next year, although this may take place earlier in the summer as part of Bromsgrove Festival.
