Georgian-style art on display
F
or the second year running the Summer Fete at Grosvenor House care home in Alvechurch
featured the announcement of the winners of the art competition set up and supported by Kamal Khan, co- owner of both Grosvenor House and Tutnall Hall. There was also plenty of enter- tainment including music supplied by vintage inspired vocal harmony group “Vintage Class” (below), a
variety of stalls, face painting and a bouncy castle for the children. The art competition was for
amateur artists who meet in Alvechurch and Droitwich and who were challenged by Kamal to paint Georgian-style pictures to be used in his nursing homes. From about 15 paintings, eight were shortlisted by Kamal and his staff, and then voted on by residents. The final four pictures were on dis-
play at the Fete and the winner was Maurice Davis of Droitwich, whose picture (above right) shows a Lady of the Manor in front of Tutnall Hall. Kamal said the residents liked the de- tail on the dress, as well as the artistic impression of Tutnall and its garden. Unfortunately, Maurice couldn’t be at the fete to receive his prize. The runner-up was Marlbrook artist
Di Morgan, who had painted a horse and squire after the style of George Stubbs. A fifth picture had been creat- ed by the art teacher, Pam McGregor, and commissioned by Kamal, not for the competition. Kamal told the audience that there
would be another competition next year and one of the residents was asked to choose the style and/or subject. Watch this space…
