CYCLING TO BEAT CANCER A

lvechurch resident Ross Dustan is raising funds for Cure Leukae- mia by taking part in a 100-mile

cycle challenge. Ross has gathered 12 friends from the village for the Birmingham Velo, which takes place on Sunday Septem- ber 24 (during Blood Cancer Aware- ness Month) when 15,000 cyclists will ride through the Worcestershire and Staffordshire countryside. The charity is close to Ross’s heart, as his son Callum was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Leukaemia – a rare, fast-growing cancer of the blood – last July. Happily, after six months of intense treatment and expert care from Birmingham Children’s Hospital, the cancer is in remission.

“Now aged six, Callum is enjoying getting back to normal – regaining his strength, attending school full time, and playing with his friends and little sister, Emily,” says Ross.

Rhinos raring to go

Each of Ross’s group aims to raise a minimum of £400 for the charity. You can donate at www.justgiving.com/ fundraising/ross-dustan, and search for ‘Callum’s progress’ on Facebook.
