REWARDING EXCELLENCE

PHARMACY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

BUCHANHAVEN PHARMACY, PETERHEAD

The team at Buchanhaven is constantly looking at ways to drive the business forward and to make it the ‘pharmacy of choice’ in an area where it faces competition from many other pharmacy businesses. Substance misuse is a large part of Buchanhaven’s business and both Samantha and her pharmacy manager currently manage all prescribing for a group of patients whom they meet with fortnightly in the pharmacy. The pharmacy also hosts three specialist prescribers each week to run their clinics from the pharmacy, which has facilitated the ability to share information seamlessly.

COMMERCIAL SERVICES TEAM, ROWLANDS PHARMACY

Rowlands had identified medicine adherence as a key challenge in its 42 Scottish pharmacies and so created Patientfirst: an initiative to address this issue. Moving away from the ‘traditional approach’, ie, dispense, check, hand out prescription and advise patient, the new approach with Patientfirst is: whilst dispensing, review compliance using existing PMR, highlight issues, check prescription and, when handing out, raise potential adherence issues through a ‘Let’s

Talk’ approach. Patientfirst also incorporates end-of-month processes which highlight patients who have not picked up their dispensed medicines.

WELL PHARMACY, TRANENT

In March last year, Well Tranent introduced a new concept, the Store of the Future. This initiative transformed the store into a ‘Pharmacy Shop’ to offer a customer-led, modern, retail destination to meet today’s customers’ complex needs. The initiative has taken the best of a traditional, local pharmacy and made it into a place where people choose to visit for their health and wellbeing, rather than just for their prescriptions. The pharmacy has introduced a unique health station, which gives customers on-the-spot, digital health checks alongside the trusted advice of the pharmacy staff.
