REWARDING EXCELLENCE

PHARMACIST OF THE YEAR

JULIE FARRELL, BOOKS UK, HAMILTON

Last year, Julie was given the opportunity to use the Dispensing Support Pharmacy (DSP) – Boots UK’s centralised automated dispensary. To optimise this opportunity, Julie led the team in changing a lot of processes in the pharmacy, and instilled a real drive for patient care within her team. By continually reviewing processes and supporting the team, DSP has had a great effect and the pharmacy now use the automated dispensary to dispense around 50 per cent of their weekly items

Finalists

LAURA DUNN, NUCHEM PHARMACY (LINDSAY & GILMOUR), EDINBURGH

Laura, who is the Pharmacy Manager, is currently undertaking her Independent Prescribing qualification, with respiratory medicine and polypharmacy her areas of specialty, since her close working relationships with the local surgery had identified these as particular areas of interest. In addition to her IP course, Laura has also completed her advanced consultation skills course, which means she is now able to treat patients who would previously have been referred to their GP for a basic consultation.

NATALIE MILLAR, LLOYDSPHARMACY, PAISLEY

Currently Pharmacy Manager at the LloydsPharmacy Tannahill branch, Natalie has been working alongside her area manager, assisting her with Human Resource processes. She is also moving from dealing with single-site area specific situations to viewing pharmacy issues on a regional level and assessing how she can influence community pharmacy as a whole. Natalie has also been helping her area manager to drive performance and enhance customer service by using her interpretive skills to analyse data and choose underperforming stores to focus on.

STUART MILLER, LINDSAY & GILMOUR PHARMACY, MOREDUN

During his time with the company, Pharmacist Manager Stuart has fostered an atmosphere of training and development. He has, for example, supported two of his students through their studies, assisting them in successfully progressing to Technician training, and also identified the potential in his existing Technician, whom he is now progressing through her Accuracy Checking Technician course. Stuart recently started working with a local Sheltered Housing Association to ensure an improved pharmaceutical care service is offered to their residents.
