Step forward and upskill your workforce

Do your employees enjoy a good work/life balance?

By Elaine Godley MBA, FRSA, O.A. Dip (Psychology)

One way to tell is to look at your absence records. Another is to look at their overall performance and whether they show signs of motivation or lethargy. Are they achieving their potential? How stressed are they? How much are they actually contributing to the bottom line of your business? Maybe they need a break? Maybe they need direction and are too embarrassed to say? Our Positively Powered

Weekend Health Retreats for career-minded individuals start later this year. Attendees will learn how to

become more productive, happy, motivated, energised and better team players. Your business will benefit from higher productivity and your team members will benefit from understanding their behavioural strengths better and how to gain their perfect life balance. Our Positively Powered Team

is drawn from experts in their own field and boast former CEOs and directors who know from first-hand experience how to manage and motivate individuals and teams. In one-to- one sessions and group learning, we use a variety of tools and techniques that guide attendees so they know what to do if they have a wobble in the future. If you want to boost your

business performance and support your employees to gain a positive life balance then send them on our Positively Powered Weekend Health Retreats. Everyone’s a winner. Let’s talk…

44 business network June 2017 Employers can choose the right programme to suit their needs

Katrina Woodward (pictured), the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership Commissioning Manager for Employment and Skills, talks about the help available to small-to-medium-sized employers across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire to recruit people with the right skills and upskill their current workforce.

The Chamber’s recent Quarterly Economic Survey highlighted that 45% of firms experience difficulties recruiting people with suitable skills, experience and attitude. Those businesses all said they rated this as the top priority to maintain sustainable growth. Employers also tell the Chamber

repeatedly that there is a chasm between their expectations for employment and what school leavers at all levels can offer. Small-to-medium-sized

employers – those employing under 50 people – appear to be most affected by recruitment and skills challenges, so to ensure these employers across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire are adequately supported to address these barriers to growth, D2N2 LEP has procured a range of employer-led programmes designed to offer tailor-made packages of recruitment and skills support. The D2N2 employer-led programmes are as follows:

STEP FORWARD MANAGED BY CT SKILLS This programme is designed for those employers who want to recruit young people aged between

16 and 24 years old to train and grow with the company. It gives employers access to talented local young people with a desire to learn new skills. It offers employers a free recruitment service, which includes work trials to ensure employers get the right person for their company. For eligible employers (those that have not recruited an apprentice within the past three years) Step Forward can also provide up to £1,000 of incentives to recruit a young person on to an apprenticeship.

EMPLOY LOCAL MANAGED BY DBC TRAINING This programme is designed for those employers that want to recruit older employees aged 19 and above. It offers employers a free, one-point- of-contact, recruitment service which matches candidates to employers’ bespoke skills requirements. The ‘candidate bank’ offers employers a match-and-fill service, which gives access to suitably-qualified candidates, pre-trained to their requirements. It also provides in- work support and continued training. For eligible employers (those that have not recruited an apprentice within the past three years) that

want to recruit local people on to an apprenticeship, EMPLOY Local can also provide up to £1,000 of incentives.

SKILLS LOCAL MANAGED BY LEARNDIRECT This programme is designed for those employers that want to upskill their existing workforce to support continued business growth. This can include improving business leadership and management skills and those skills required to access new emerging sectors and markets. The programme also offers support to employers wanting to develop higher level skills in the workplace through accredited learning such as Higher Apprenticeships. For eligible employers that use

apprenticeships to upskill their workforce, a range of financial incentives are available. The approach to learning is tailored to the unique needs of each business, using a blended approach of online learner-led training and focused tutor supported learning to minimise business impact.
