CHAMBER NEWS bmi regional partnership takes off

Airline bmi regional has become a strategic partner of the Chamber. From its head office at East Midlands airport, bmi regional works closely with industry sectors such as automotive, aerospace and rail and strives to create industry networks and improved connectivity in order to help businesses to grow and prosper. It is in the process of adding to

its current East Midlands to Brussels link and creating a new hub at Birmingham Airport, launching three new European routes from the UK’s second city to Graz, Gothenburg and Nuremberg, to provide improved connectivity to and from the East Midlands. The Birmingham to Graz route,

driven by the automotive industry, is testament to bmi regional’s business strategy, linking a significant mobility cluster, which has equal strengths in the areas of human and bio-technology, energy and environmental technology. Chamber strategic partners are

chosen from among its patrons to collaborate on specific policy matters. Chamber patrons include organisations which want to take a more influential and prominent role in the local business community and share the values that drive the Chamber forward. Scott Knowles, Chamber Chief

Executive, said: “I am delighted to welcome bmi regional as a strategic partner. Our strategic partners influence delivery of our policy and how we lobby Government and other opinion formers. They are drawn from among our patrons, which are themselves a powerful force in shaping policy to drive economic growth and develop and equip smaller businesses with the knowledge and skills that are vital to their future.

“We look forward to working closely with the Chamber and to help influence its policies moving forward”

“bmi regional will bring skills and

expertise to the Chamber to complement those of the other patrons to evolve something which is, together, greater than the sum of its parts.” Jochen Schnadt, Chief

Commercial Officer at bmi regional, said: “We are delighted to be welcomed by the East Midlands

Chamber as a strategic partner as part of our ongoing growth strategy to connect key business regions. “The East Midlands as part of the

wider Midlands Economic Growth Engine is the real home of the ‘Made in Britain’ label and having frequent accessible connections to other European business centres is critical for the region. We look

forward to working closely with the Chamber and to help influence its policies moving forward.” bmi regional operates an all-jet

fleet comprising 20 Embraer 135/145 aircraft. The airline now operates more than 450 scheduled flights a week across a network of 35 destinations in 12 European countries. The airline also operates an extensive ad hoc charter business and flies on a contract basis on behalf of other carriers. The Chamber has 12 strategic partners and 39 patrons in total.

Historic firm joins as Chamber patron

Award-winning solicitors firm Edward Hands & Lewis has become the latest patron of the Chamber. With offices in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire,

Leicestershire and further afield, Edward Hands & Lewis provides legal services to individuals and SME businesses across the whole East Midlands region. Established in 1897 in Loughborough, after 110 years supporting the local community the firm was taken over by Jason Hathaway in 2007. This was a turning point in the firm’s history that has since seen Edward Hands & Lewis grow from one office with six staff to 15 offices and over 150 staff. With both private and commercial clients spanning

the whole country and abroad, Edward Hands & Lewis supports a wide variety of needs across all sectors. Edward Hands & Lewis’ private client services include conveyancing, wills and lasting powers of attorney,
