Going Out - Page 48 RNA member does charity parachute jump

Royal Navy Association member, Richard Conway took to the skies in November to raise much needed funds for two Torrevieja charities – Alzheimer's and AECC. Richard jumped in tandem with his instructor from a light aircraft at a height of 4,000 metres. The plane, a Piper Cherokee, took off from Aerodrome Obdura near Albacete on a beautiful sunny day with light winds. The photo shows Richard with his instructor, enjoying the view as he comes down to earth. Richard raised over 4,000€ for his two chosen charities and was sponsored by members of the RNA and The Nook Pub Team as well as other friends and family members. Torrevieja branch of the Royal Naval Association meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 6pm at bar/restaurante El Paraiso near Carrefour, Torrevieja. For more information please call Chairman Paul Edwards on 618 644 934,Vice Chairman Danny Kay on 96 671 6274 or Secretary Margaret Forshaw on 96 692 1996. You don’t have to be former Royal Navy personnel to join and nor are you required to jump out of aeroplanes but new members do get a “tot” of rum!

Marina Alta Fine Arts Society

Valiantly more than 120 people struggled through the weather to Jávea's Parador to attend the MAFAS inaugural meeting, not all the 150 members could make it.

Harry Fletcher gave a "tour de force" presentation on "Highlights of Spanish Painting" including Velazquez, Greco, Goya, Sorolla, Dali & Picasso. His analysis of the paintings and anecdotes about the artists enthralled the audience.

We are looking to the future and want to organise events and trips to exhibitions, galleries and historic

buildings. To do that and also ensure we have a strong organisational foundation for the years ahead we want to recruit more people to work with or on the Committee. Just talk to any Committee member if you think you might like to be involved.

For information on monthly lectures please visit www.mafas.org.uk.

Make a Smile Recycle

Heroes Need Your Help Dennis and Barbara accept any household items, furniture, electrical and clothes etc for the recycle projects.

They are happy to do total house clearances. The items are given a bit of TLC and sold in rastros and auctions to provide funds for the Emaús homes’ daily needs. They can be contacted on 660 961 585 or 96 583 6814.

The Make A Smile Greenhouse Project Self Sufficiency Program

The project combines a team of volunteers planting, harvesting and cultivating the land to produce farm fresh vegetables and fresh pressed Olive Oil at the

EMAUS home for mentally challenged youngsters. Chickens lay 800 eggs a week and along with the veggie bags bought by the general public, this helps to generate much needed funds to provide the essentials for them to survive. Help us to help them by volunteering on the farm or buying your vegetables from us each week! Find out more in the Facebook 'Make A Smile Greenhouse Project' group, email info@makeasmile.es or visit www.makeasmile.es.
