Restaurante “TASCA LA SELLA” By Claire Cunningham
A truly warming experience. That is the best way I can describe my first visit to Tasca La Sella. It was a cold windy Sunday when my family and friends dined here. Under new management for the past 10 months, Felipe & Daniela have worked hard to turn this historic and traditional restaurant into a very warm and welcoming environment.
We were greeted enthusiastically by Felipe who acts as 'front of house' and shown to our beautifully presented table, complete with a linen tablecloth and napkins. Daniela is the chef, who produces delicious and very well presented home cooked food. Served both at lunchtime and at night there are 2 very good value set menus, also a full A la Carte menu, and for keen meat eaters Tasca La Sella specialises in a superb 'carne a la brasa' (flame grilled meats). The €18.50 Set Menu includes bread and alioli, an appetiser, an entrée, then a choice of main course followed by dessert or coffee. The simpler €14.50 menu also includes bread and alioli followed by a choice of starters, a choice of mains followed by dessert or coffee. Both menus include a drink (water, beer or glass of wine). On this occasion the five of us all opted for the €14.50 menu. I chose the goat's cheese salad, which was sublime, followed by a very tasty chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms and bacon. The triple chocolate tart finished my meal off wonderfully, however as the pace was relaxed and unhurried, I still had room for a coffee and an after dinner digestif (a generously sized Tia Maria!). The others had a selection of vegetable soup, pasta with prawns, baked hake and spaghetti carbonara, all of which were unanimously agreed to be thoroughly delicious. Daniela took the time to come out of the kitchen and talk with us, which made us feel very welcome; nothing is rushed here at Tasca La Sella, Felipe also taking the time to explain the differences in the various local brandies that we also enjoyed. There is live music every Saturday but we were lucky enough to receive an impromptu performance. As well as being a very congenial restaurateur, Felipe is also an experienced music teacher, and he played guitar and sang a small selection of songs for us. From 'Julio Iglesias' to 'Santana' we were struck by his excellent voice and superb guitar skills. It topped off our first visit to this lovely restaurant perfectly. All in all, we had spent an extremely pleasant Sunday afternoon at Tasca La Sella, our friends enjoyed it so much they are already planning their return with some other friends, keen to introduce them to this new found gem of a restaurant. Having walked in as strangers we felt that we left Felipe and Daniela as friends. Highly recommended and for all Female Focus visiting for the first time, Felipe & Daniela will be very pleased to offer a free bottle of (very decent) wine on top of everything else – just mention that you are coming to them because you have read about Tasca La Sella in Female Focus.
Special Valentine's Menu – available THREE TIMES in February
February is Valentine's month when our thoughts turn to romance, and Felipe & Daniela have created a wonderfully special menu to celebrate this romantic occasion. They are offering a special 4 course menu, and this will be available on Valentine's Day, Tuesday the 14th and also the Saturday before and after – the 11th and 18th, both at lunchtime and evening. To begin, a glass of cava with a selection of aperitifs, followed by a choice of starters and a selection of main courses, followed by a romantic dessert, also included is bread and alioli, half a bottle of wine each, or water, beer or soft drink. And to emphasise the romantic mood, Philipe will also be performing some live music.
