YOUTHsports

Every year, thousands of competitors and spectators make their way to the Wildwoods for regional and national competitions and tournaments that pro- vide an economic boon to this shore destination. These individuals and groups book hotel rooms, dine at local restau- rants, and fill the convention center in conjunction with a variety of youth sports.

This market segment isn't just restricted to summer. During the winter months, the Wildwoods Convention Center welcomes a variety of youth competition events, such as the National Cheer Tech Cheerleading Competition, Boardwalk Basketball Classic, youth wrestling duals, indoor soccer tournaments and more for as many as 5,000 competitors.

The Wildwoods Convention Center has become one of the most popular venues for youth events, with its spacious well-lit arena overlooking the beach and ocean, as well as its large ballroom space and ten meeting rooms. Add to that a large number of hotel and motel rooms avail- able at attractive off-season rates, and plenty of great family restaurants and fun things to do, and the Wildwoods serves as a perfect family destination for youth events.

greenINITIATIVES

The Wildwoods Convention Center has a 473 kW rooftop solar array that was devel- oped by Tioga Energy of San Francisco, and which was constructed by Pro-Tech Energy Solutions of New Jersey (including IBEW Local 269 Huen Electric) in 2012. Today, this installation supplies 24 percent of the venue’s overall energy usage and reduces its carbon footprint by 179 tons annually.

In addition, energy efficient light bulbs are now being used and light sensors have been installed throughout the building’s service areas. Waterless urinals and sensor operated faucets and flush systems have been installed to conserve water consumption. The venue also utilizes environmentally friendly cleaning products and recycled materials wherever possible.

Recycling is another major green initiative at the Wildwoods Convention Center, as everything from cardboard, office paper, glass, plastic and cans to ink cartridges, broken equipment, scrap metal and used light bulbs are recycled by the venue.
