To meet a group's needs,WaterWorks can customize its menu.“In order to keep to our standards of food and service, we don’t cater at off-site venues,” said Gary Abramson,director of events and catering forWaterWorks Restaurant.“With our loca- tion in Fairmount Park,there are adjoining spaces right outside our door that can accommodate our guests who want to use them.”

in the Engine House, a quiet meeting on the riverside veranda, receptions under the Pavilion or a business lunch in the Breezeway, the Water Works has the ideal location for every event.


A sampling ofWaterWorks' dinner menu showcases a variety of choices from land and sea, as well as vegetarian choices - from bison rib eye and lobster ravioli to pressed rosemary tofu and GrandMarnier duck breast and much more. Desserts include selections like The Water Wheel, which combines dark chocolate Bavarian cream, raspberry jam, flourless chocolate cake and Chambord ganache, or the Spiced Tres Leches Cake that consists of vanilla pound cake, fresh apple-cranberry compote,and Chantilly cream.


The history of theWaterWorks Restaurant is as delightful as itsmenu.Frederick Graff, a talented engineer,was commissioned to design one of the country’s firstmunicipal water delivery systems in the early 1800s.


He used innovative engineering and architectural beauty where steamengines lifted water to the reservoir on top of Faire Mount (where the Philadelphia Museum of Art now stands).When the Schuylkill Dam was built, the steam engines were replaced with water wheels that were powered by the force of the river.


When constructed, the Fairmount Water Works was considered an architectural and engineering marvel. The site was eventually converted into a world-class public facility and became a must-see tourist destination complete with sur- rounding gardens. For a while, the facility even housed an aquarium and a public swimming pool. During the nation's Bicentennial (1976) Celebration, Water Works was designated as a National Historic Landmark.
