identifiable by their bright blue t-shirts, but by their smiles and pleasant de- meanor. They are trained to briefly engage boaters at the boat ramp by ask- ing a few simple questions and offering to inspect their boat and trailer to remove all hitchhiking plant fragments. Boats are inspected around the cavitation plate and propeller and the entire outside of the hull is in- spected as well. Trailers are inspected around the hitch, tongue, bunks, and rollers. Any plant material found is placed into a bag where it will not fall out and find its way into the water. Plant material that looks suspiciously like an exotic aquatic plant is sent to the New Hamp- shire Department of En- vironmental Services for identification. Inspecting a boat and trailer to remove hitch- hiking aquatic plants is a simple process that any- one can do—Lake Hosts recommend that all boat- ers conduct an inspection every time before putting a boat into a waterbody and every time after tak- ing a boat out of a water- body, even if a Lake Host isn’t there to help. It’s important to always
