BOULDER LOOP TRAIL We took advantage of a

break in the weather and went for a good hike just off the Kancamagus. We parked by the Albany Cov- ered Bridge where we met a group of rock climbers packing up their car. They had been out climbing around on boulders that were dry and warm in the sunshine. We all agreed it hasn’t been a good spring for climbers and hikers. I am really looking for- ward to some summer-like weather and I bet that you are too. After crossing over the

covered bridge we walked down Dugway Road a few minutes to reach the Boul- der Loop Trail on our left. On the opposite side of the trailhead are another parking lot and the Swift River. The AMC White Moun-

tain Guide describes the loop as a trail to ledges on a southwest spur of the Moat Range, 3.1 miles in length and requiring about a 1,000 vertical feet of climbing.

Our route for the day

was an excellent choice! We hiked the loop in the clockwise direction. The

Weirs Times to Publish 2011 Laconia Muskrats Guide: The “Official” Correction

In last week’s Weirs Times

we inadvertently called our new Laconia Muskrats’ spe- cial publication the “official” program. Sometimes we let our enthusiasm get the best of us. There are other local publications who are also printing promotional material to help bring attention to this great community addition. The Weirs Times is proud

to be one of these supporters and happy to give back any advertising profits we make to the team. While there may be no official Muskrats’ Guide we are hoping to continue to be an official supporter for years to come.

trail had dry good footing and we were rewarded for our efforts right away. Just a few tenths of a mile in and we were walking by marvelous extremely large boulders. As we hiked a little higher splendid red trilliums were in bloom, the first we had seen this season. Part way up we enjoyed

a ledgy outlook and got our first glimpses of Mount Chocorua and we could hear the roar of the Swift River below. When we reached the high point at 1.3 miles, we took the short spur trail to enjoy the open ledges. The sun felt warm on our skin and we could see to the south more of Chocorua and his closest neighbors. We didn’t linger long on

top. We carried no food; only water bottles since we’d be back at the car in See PATENAUDE on 13
