portferdinand.com) is a new complex of 82 two- and four-bedroom properties with yacht berthings, a pool and beach access. Rentals start from £556 per night. Funway Holidays (
funwayholidays.co.uk) has added
the four-star Southern Palms Beach Club and Hotel to its 2015 Caribbean programme. From £899pp, room-only including fl ights. Elegant Hotels has refurbished the garden
view and one-bedroom suites at the Colony Club (
colonyclubhotel.com) to give them a more Bajan look. The rooms now have fl at-screen TVs, iPod docks and Nespesso machines, and most have four-poster beds. Prices start at £282pn.

Cayman Islands The islands (Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman) are in the middle of the Caribbean, south of Cuba and west of Jamaica, and famous for their diving, snorkelling spot Stingray City and miles of sandy beach. What’s new: Kimpton Hotels (kimptonhotels. com) is to open its fi rst Caribbean property on Six Mile Beach on Grand Cayman. The 263- room property will have fi ve restaurants and a destination spa. It is due to open in 2016.
Hot tip: A new foodie tour of George Town (
caymanfoodtours.com) takes visitors on a food and drink extravaganza, with 10 tastings in fi ve favourite eateries in the capital. The price is $60 per person ($40 for under 12s). Meanwhile, the West Bay bike rental company (
westbayloop.com) has a new three-hour guided bike tour following a fl at route with great views. The price is $70pp.

Dominican Republic In the northern Caribbean, between Puerto Rico and Cuba, the Dominican Republic made its name as the all-inclusive capital of the Caribbean but these days it’s also known for its many upscale properties. What’s new: CHIC (
chicpuntacana.com) is a new adult- only all-inclusive resort opening in Punta Cana on Dec 15. The CHIC All-Exclusive Resort by Royalton, is part of the Canadian Blue Diamond Hotels and Resorts chain, and will have 323 rooms, fi ve à la carte restaurants, seven bars, a spa and unlimited free wifi /mobile calling. Its two-storey private residence, The Mansion, has six rooms, a private pool and butler. British Airways (
batraveltrade.com) has replaced its three-times-a-week indirect fl ight from Gatwick to Punta Cana with a twice-weekly direct service departing Tuesdays and Saturdays. A second terminal opens at Punta Cana Airport (
puntacanainternationalairport.com) in November.

Hot tip: Carnival (
carnivalcorp.com) is constructing a $65m cruise terminal at Maimón Bay in Puerto Plata, on the north coast of Dominican Republic. It is scheduled to open at the end of 2015 and will count Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 among its fi rst ships, with its call scheduled on Jan 22 2016.
