Dedicated monthly licensing coverage for the UK Boy and the Dinosaur ripe for toys Ideas for licensed products are already coming to mind as new show takes shape, says creator

LITTLE MONSTERS creator and 1461 MD Russell Dever believes his next project, Boy and the Dinosaur, has the potential to spawn a range of popular toys. The new programme, which is due to land on screens in July 2014, follows a young boy who finds his wish come true when he meets Dinosaur. Dever believes the nature of the programme will help to make it a great fit for toy manufacturers. “It’s play-based and any

child’s property that is play-based will lend itself to exploitation with toy products,” Dever told ToyNews. “It is just a question of what kind of toys. Whether we’re looking at something traditional or something that’s more digital. Personally, I think it works on both levels.” The show is at the storyboard stage now and Dever says that ideas for toys are already coming to mind as the programme begins takes shape. “We’ve already

effectively designed a play- set as an integral part of the show because the central piece of where all the action takes place is on two levels, with a tree house,” he added.

DEVER: “I have to do a lot of design to make sure we have incorporated a lot of opportunities for toy companies to find products to work with”

“The garden is on one side, the tree house in the middle, and a whole wilderness play area on the other side.

“That whole area we have designed with a play

set in mind from the outset. When our viewers want to interact with that, it’s a space that they will recognise from the show.” Dever continued: “I have to do a lot of design to make sure we have incorporated a lot of opportunities for toy firms to find products to work with. That is terribly important and has to be done from the outset.”

LITTLE MONSTERS TO GET ‘RETRO-FRESH’ RE-LAUNCH

NINETIES CHILDREN’S book series and TV show Little Monsters is being re-launched this year. The property, which has sold more than 23 million books around the world, is being treated to a ‘retro-fresh’ new look. “Current design trends are going back to that post-

war, post-austerity era. Bold colours, simple lines, Bauhaus feel. That’s where we are re-positioning Little Monsters,” said Dever. “That’s why we’ve chosen this description of retro-fresh. It will look like a retro property with a whole fresh image.” The revamp will include a complete redesign of the

original TV show and a new way for the book material to be packaged. “It will have a completely different look and feel to what it looked like originally,” he added.
