e have combined many years of experience with state of the art technology to provide the ultimate high speed laser cutting and engraving solution. Many industries are now finding that laser cutting/engraving technology is far superior to traditional methods. It is no surprise, therefore, that laser machines are also being applied to the world of trophies and engraving. GS UK has recently held a number of roadshows and was joined by Glenway Trophies. Glenwayʼs product range is vast and highlighted the need for laser machines that can not only cut products, but that are also capable of engraving a large selection of materials, eg: acrylic, glass, mirror, wood, cardboard and various plastics. With GS UKʼs Lasers and Software the process of engraving can be achieved in two different ways – Vector engraving and Raster engraving. The processes used in each are different and so are the final results. Vector engraving typically uses a vector- based file, such as an Adobe Illustrator file. the vector. The user specifies the speed and power they wish to use and this is then applied from the start of the vector to the end. Varying the power and speed means
different settings can be created to accommodate different media. Thinner plastics will need to be engraved with less power and at a faster speed than a more dense thicker acrylic. The ʻMaterial Managerʼ facility in the software supplied with our lasers allows the user to set up and store the cutting/engraving specifications for their individual range of media. Raster engraving involves a different process. This method typically uses a raster based image file such as a JPG, although it can also be applied to a solid vector file.
Simply speaking, raster engraving ʻfills
inʼ the image. To engrave this type of data the laser will scan across the image increasing and decreasing the power automatically as it attempts to pick up the tonal changes in the image. Normally, the darkest areas on an image will receive maximum power and the lightest areas may hardly be touched at all. Therefore, using this process on tonally contrasting images can produce effective ʻphotographic resultsʼ. sprays also ensures that metals can now be marked by laser machines. Additionally, the Apollo 600ʼs footprint is very small making it the ideal machine for shoe repairers, key engravers and trophy engravers.
Larger companies may consider the GraphixScan Laser engraving machine. This offers even more scope to those customers that need to decorate products, it can engrave images, text, logos and textures on finished items or raw materials including textiles, wood and plastic.
This is achieved by the laser removing the dye or surface of the media. Each design is reproduced with precision every time, controlled by advanced Laser Marking Software giving total control of speed and power, which also allows the GraphixScan to etch and cut to precise depths at lightning speeds.
