MACHINERY NEWS

This month we look at the Challenger III D automatic textile press from M&R and a new flash cure unit from NESMS.

New dimension to textile printing M

&R are a well-known manufacturer of automatic textile presses and already have an extensive range so the introduction of another new model may surprise some. When, however, you see the specification of the Challenger III D you may see the reasoning behind the decision to extend the available choice even further.

This new model has, as standard, the ground-breaking Dynamic PrintStroke system which brings a new dimension to automatic textile printing providing infinitely programmable squeegee pressure, print/flood speed, print stroke length and front and rear carriage stops. The squeegee pressure setting can even be varied between print strokes offering unparalleled control over ink deposit. These programmable print settings along with Ink Dip, Ink Dam. Flashcure and other print settings can be saved as a named unique program which can then be stored and, of course, recalled in M&Rʼs Job Recall system.

The operator can recall a particular job at any time with all of the required settings stored and ready to go but, should there be another job with similar settings, the program can be recalled, minor changes made and then ʻsaved asʼ with another name.

Stored jobs can also be sent to other Challenger III D machines providing large plants with a convenient and easy way of controlling production.

These new features are impressive but it also comes with a long list of other standard features such as super-fast servo driven indexer, servo driven print heads, tool free calibrated angle adjustments, large sophisticated touch screen control panel and quick set print head off-contact – invaluable when printing thick inks or speciality inks such as gels.

The machine also carries M&Rʼs Automatic Pallet Preheat Mode with built

in pallet temperature sensors allowing operators to preheat pallets to the desired temperature and then track those temperatures throughout the production run.

Each print head includes a touchscreen that provides digital control over squeegee print and squeegee pressure and floodbar speeds.

Each print head also has a socket allowing a flash cure unit to be connected to any station with on-the-fly adjustments being made from the central control unit. n For more information about the Challenger III D visit www.mrprint.com or www.daveroper.co.uk

Affordable and portable curing P

ortable flash cure units have been around for a while and there is already a good selection available to the screen printer so what makes this new model from Dave Renton different?

Cosmetically there does not seem to be a lot of difference but there are a few secrets hidden under the bonnet making the Metro more flexible while improving economy at the same time.

For instance, the element can be turned a full 180deg so, when the unit is not in use or when the operator has to leave the machine to answer a call of nature or answer the telephone, the element can be turned 45deg away from the pallet ensuring that neither the garment nor the pallet are burnt. Many 18” x 18” spot curers currently on the market could be described as not being as stable as they should be so this potential problem was addressed in the development stage.

And finally...

The stability of the Metro is very good indeed with it being unlikely to fall over even when knocked. You can also add into the features list a temperature control something not usually seen on a spot curer such as this. Dave Renton (of NESMS) has been involved in the screen printing industry for a long time and this experience proves invaluable when he decides to look at a problem.

It would have been easy to redesign what is already available but Daveʼs approach was different to this. The Metro was designed from the ground up isolating the usual problems and then resolving them.

The unit was 100% developed by Dave and is built here in the UK. It carries all the necessary CE certification and, hereʼs the really good news, comes in at a very competitive price. In Daveʼs words it is “an 18” x 18” spot curer at an affordable price”. n For more information call 0191 461 0318 or visit www.nesms.co.uk
