for maintaining the City’s infrastructure, streets, bridges, drainage, traffi c control facilities, water and wastewater, and sanitation operations.
Our Street Department utilizes 9
employees to maintain the City’s 308 lane miles of roads, approx 375 acres of right of way, and the drainage structures within the City. Street signage, traffi c control devices, and tree trimming are other duties assigned to the department. Whether it is a winter storm, fl ood, or natural disaster this team is responding to protect and assist the citizens of Yukon.
The Water and Wastewater Department
is a 7 person team responsible for the City’s water and wastewater system. With over 8,500 connections, just over 1.2
million feet of water line, and approximately 847,000 feet of sewer line, the team is challenged everyday to ensure the citizens receive the best service possible. The City team is assisted by Veolia Water, which is contracted to run the Wastewater Treatment Plant, 10 Lift Stations, 3 Booster Stations and 15 Water Wells. Each year the City of Yukon uses approximately 1 billion gallons of water.
The City’s Sanitation Department
services just over 7800 residential, 63 rural, and 475 commercial customers. This group is responsible for dumping approximately 12,000 containers weekly. The team completes about 250 customer service work orders monthly.
The Fleet Maintenance Department is made up of 4 mechanics. This team is
responsible for maintaining 127 city vehicles, 50 pieces of heavy equipment, 35 mowers and small equip- ment items, and 9 generators within the City.

Besides the responsibilities listed
above, the team also is called upon to assist with city festivals. The success of the Public Works Team is a unifi ed organization working together to accomplish a common goal. Whether it is a winter storm, main break, or emergency incident, they work as a team not individual departments.
