Yukon Finance Department The Finance Department for Michael Malmfeldt, City Treasurer
the City of Yukon is responsible for all of the fi nancial activity that occurs within the city. Our mission is to enable the city to continue to provide the best possible services to the citizens of Yukon, while maintaining the appropriate fi scal responsibility and integrity that should exist within the department that acts as the custodian for the funds of the city.
Within the Finance Department, we have a broad reach into the
various operating aspects of the city because they all require fi nancial resources in order to do their jobs. However, our day-to-day activities consist mostly of tracking revenues and expenditures, monitoring the approved budget and the budget variances within the various accounts, reconciling bank statements, paying bills and making purchases through the purchase order system, keeping record of all fi nancial transactions that occur within the city, budget forecasting, and insuring that the city remains compliant with the various fi nance related statutes enacted at the state and federal levels as well as those outlined in our local charter and the various ordinances that accompany it. One of the biggest responsibilities of the Finance Department is that of organizing and assisting with the approval process of the annual budget. As one of the primary responsibilities of the City Manager is providing a working operational budget, we take great pride in the budgeting process. From the months of March- July, we are all heavily involved in the many aspects of getting the budget prepared for approval by the City Council and subsequent implementation. For the Fiscal Year 2012-2013, the budget consisted of $21,120,774.00 in the General Fund expenditures and a total of just over $38,685,510.00 million for the city-wide budget.
Within the Finance Department, we accomplish these goals
through the hard work and determination of our staff. Currently, our staff, in the Finance Department, consists of: City Treasurer,

We work very closely as a team and all the success that we achieve, in our department, requires the combined cooperation and efforts of the three of us together. Also, housed within the responsibilities of the Finance Department is the management of the Utility Billing Department.
The Utility Billing Department is one of the departments that
has the most interaction with the public and we pride ourselves on providing exemplary customer service to the good citizens of Yukon, while at the same time, upholding our internal policies as well as staying in compliance with all applicable laws and statutes. The Utility Billing Department consists of: a Utility Billing Supervisor, a Utility Billing Specialist, three Utility Billing Clerks, and fi ve Meter Readers. In addition to handling all aspects related to the accurate and timely billing of Utility and Sanitation services provided by the City to the citizens, the Utility Billing department (through the meter readers) handles much of the initial troubleshooting of water related problems that can affect utility bills such as new meters, water being turned on or off, leak determination, and/or meter testing. This fi eld work often results in further opportunities for interaction with the public and often requires a great deal of tact in fi nesse in dealing with the concerns of citizens.
