Regarding the July 11 story “The man who wouldn’t grow up” by Steve Hendrix
Gigi Thompson Jarvis of McLean:
I worked with Kenny Curtis in the ’90s
when he was with the local Radio AAHS [children’s] affi liate, and everyone agreed that Kenny was a
creative genius who could make it big in whatever entertainment format he chose to pursue. So glad to read that he’s still using his powers for good, giving kids and parents something to laugh about.
Regarding the July 11 story “Shear business” by Ylan Q. Mui Jennifer Halpin of Leesburg:
I started going to Nancy at the Hair Cuttery in Vienna 16 years ago. Nancy is fantastic as a colorist and always knows the latest techniques. The fact that it costs me one-quarter of what it would in a high-priced salon is just an added bonus. I’ve had people stop and ask where I get my hair cut.
The Ratners have done a fantastic job developing their brand and keeping their stylists happy. I wish they would take the business public — I’d be fi rst in line to buy the stock.
Regarding the June 27 story, “The marriage myth” by Ellen McCarthy Robert F. Scuka, executive director, National Institute of Relationship
Enhancement in Bethesda: Ellen McCarthy is to be complimented for her very thorough article. However, one important correction is necessary. McCarthy mistakenly describes the communication method taught at the institute as involving “parroting.” That grossly oversimplifi es a much more sophisticated process. The listener’s goal is not simply to “parrot” back what the speaker has said. Instead, the listener aims to “read between the lines” in order to connect with the deeper layers of the speaker’s experience. This then permits the listener to verbally empathize with the speaker in a manner that helps the speaker feel genuinely understood.
