Würth Group:
7.5 billion euro
sales in 2009
The Würth Group 2009 issued preliminary results showing sales down 14.9% to
7.5 billion euros. The Group says that the pre-tax operating result is expected to
exceed 200 million euros, compared with 545 million euros for 2008.
Sales in Germany declined by 10%; rest of the world sales by 18.3%. The number of employees in
the Group fell by 7.8% in 2009 to 57,882 worldwide.
Robert Friedmann, chairman of the central managing board: “Our sales development in 2009 was,
as expected, strongly marked by the diffi cult economic situation that hit our customers, above all in
the automobile industry, but also in machine construction. In the second half of the year, however, we
noticed a sort of bottoming out. Incoming orders stabilised and even showed a trend back to growth.”
Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG, generated record sales in September and October 2009.
Friedmann explains: “It was good to react at an early point in time. We strongly concentrated on
sales, and this has paid off. On top of this we took precautions in highly profi table years – e.g. by
building up an excellent liquidity level as well as a high equity ratio. This is what we benefi t from now.”
2010 growth, Würth says, will come not only from economic recovery but also from an extension
of the customer base. The Group’s defi nitive annual statement will be published on 19 May.
Würth also announced three appointments to its central managing board effective 1 January. They
were Michel Kurn, Jurg Michel and Wolfgang Rampmaier. The announcement says “they are going to
reinforce the supreme decision making body of the Wuerth Group”.
