he Brentwood Community Hospital is a new building on the site of a former hospital. The two-storey building will include a 50 bed inpatient ward as well as outpatient and radiography facilities.
Bilco has supplied a 1,000 by 1,250 mm EW-50 REM smoke vent to Mansell Construction, the main contractor on this development.
Bilco smoke vents utilise 24 volt DC linear actuators for positive, controlled operation to ensure rapid dispersal of smoke and noxious fumes. Bilco’s latest actuators are at a fully opened position within 60-seconds, allowing the vents to meet the requirements of EN12101-2.
Bilco’s REM automatic smoke vents – which are also available in special sizes – have been introduced to meet customer demand for improved smoke ventilation capability.
JAMES FISHER, GENERAL MANAGER AT BILCO, SAID: “Fire safety in multi-storey buildings is becoming increasingly important and product development is being driven by the adoption of new legislation and design codes. come as a kit with a fireman's switch and smoke detector. Other options can also be added, including rain sensors and temperature thermostats to allow for comfort ventilation. Alternatively, the smoke vents can be wired directly into a building’s management system.
The REM automatic smoke vents meet current UK legislation and can be incorporated within a system designed to BS9999 or installed by following recognised codes of practice, such as BRE 79204.
Bilco also supplied a 915 by 760 mm S-50T roof access hatch, with its LadderUP Safety Post, which will provide a secondary means of escape from the flat roof area.
