innovations Keim paints have been used on the ground-breaking, multi-million pound new Howe Dell Primary School in Hatfield. Architects Capita Architecture were charged by Hertfordshire County Council with creating the county’s first ‘eco- school’ within the governments ‘eco-schools’ strategy. Keim Ecosil has been used for all the internal walls throughout the new school for its environmental properties. Keim paints are VOC and solvent free, waterbased, odourless and use only natural earth oxide pigments and inorganic mineral fillers. They also offer a highly cost effective solution, saving substantially on redecoration costs over their projected 15-years plus life to first redecoration.

At 35-storeys and 165m (540ft) high British Land’s The Broadgate Tower is London’s third tallest building and is now 48% let. Together with its neighbouring 13-storey building, 201 Bishopsgate, which is in turn 88% let, the development provides a total of 800,000 sq ft of office accommodation. 559 Doorsets from Leaderflush Shapland were supplied to the project with fire ratings of 30 and 60 minutes integrity and sound reduction of up to 39RwdB – all were primed for on-site painting so as to match the doorsets within the internal environment. Comar 6 was extruded to 7.5 metres to enable the framing to be installed without joints. New Drywall at major hospital
Innovative rib deck soffits called for imaginative detailing to preserve the acoustic and fire performance of drywall compartment walls and partitions in a major new hospital. Using high performance plasterboards Knauf Soundshield and Knauf Fireshield, drywall subcontractors Astins cut 60,000 individual profiles to create the necessary ‘notched’ head detailing at Peterborough City Hospital, which has 20 miles – 32,000 linear metres – of drywall. The hospital, due for completion in 2010, is the largest of three developments in a £335 million healthcare facilities upgrade in Peterborough. Knauf Drywall systems, installed by Astins, are used throughout.
