LouvreSol completes city place LouvreSol Special Projects have recently completed City Place located at the Beehive Complex at Gatwick Airport. The four storey installation consists of a high level solar shading canopy over the full height entrance lobby supported on two slim columns and vertical solar shading to the main facade. In order to reduce the heat gain during mid-day the main western elevation was fitted with full height, four storey, vertical aluminium louvre blades. These 700 mm wide elliptical blades were powder coated to match the existing floor to ceiling windows on the project and are fixed back to structure at several levels. Rhino Lift Assist Bollards Marshalls Street Furniture has launched a new range of Rhino Lift Assist Telescopic Bollards. Featuring a stainless steel gas spring mechanism, the operating weight of the bollard is reduced by around 70%, minimising strain when lifting. This enables the specification of heavy duty posts of significant stature, without compromising on performance and ease of use. For more information on the Lift Assist bollards, a video demonstration is now live on Marshalls TV, at

Retained barn
walls stabilised Masonry repair and reinforcement products from Helifix Ltd have been use to reinforce and secure two unstable elevations of an old barn which had to be retained, in order to resolve party wall issues, and incorporated into the construction of a new Premier Inn at Chesterfield in Derbyshire for Whitbread PLC. Specified by structural engineers, Simpson Associates of Henley on Thames, the stainless steel Helifix products provided the benefits of being fully concealed within the masonry and could be rapidly installed to provide an effective and reliable solution. Be sure to
prevent scalding The threat of injurious scalding hot water should be prevented by fitting fail-safe thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) on hot water outlets in public buildings and dwellings, says Honeywell, the leading manufacturer of water valves and heating controls. Honeywell TMVs fitted in the supplies to baths, showers and hand basins ensure a constant safe temperature at delivery. TMVs are mandatory in new and refurbished homes in Scotland. Various organisations are lobbying for similar regulations covering the rest of the UK. Click here to request literature
Environmental
innovations Keim paints have been used on the ground-breaking, multi-million pound new Howe Dell Primary School in Hatfield. Architects Capita Architecture were charged by Hertfordshire County Council with creating the county’s first ‘eco- school’ within the governments ‘eco-schools’ strategy. Keim Ecosil has been used for all the internal walls throughout the new school for its environmental properties. Keim paints are VOC and solvent free, waterbased, odourless and use only natural earth oxide pigments and inorganic mineral fillers. They also offer a highly cost effective solution, saving substantially on redecoration costs over their projected 15-years plus life to first redecoration.

Last gasp for gas With Radon being a threat to many parts of the UK, Delta Membrane Systems offers an effective barrier to this deadly gas in the form of Delta- Gas Barrier System. For this reason, Radon has to be prevented from entering a building in the first place, and Delta-Gas Barrier is ideally suited to this task. Conforming to BR 211, BR 212 and Building Regulations Document C, the barrier has the added advantage of giving totally dependable protection layer against rising damp. Thanks to the roll size of 4m x 25m, it eases and speeds up the installation procedure, and reduces overlaps to a minimum.
