40 DRAINAGE & PLUMBING
A rainwater harvesting solution Lion House is an ultra low-emissions office building, designed and built for Defra, in Alnwick, Northumberland. From the outset, the aim was to construct a building with the highest possible BREEAM rating. There was also the aim of minimising mains water consumption through low-water use fittings and rainwater harvesting systems. The project's M&E contractors Haden Young approached one of the UK's leading supplier of rainwater harvesting equipment, Kingspan Water, to design a suitable solution for the building. The Kingspan Water team worked closely with Haden Young to configure its Envireau equipment to meet the water consumption requirements for toilet flushing for Lion House's 100 employees.

Friaphon scales new heights in Cork
The Friaphon sound attenuated drainage system from Durapipe UK has been installed in The Elysian, the new landmark building in Cork. At 71 metres high, the 17 storey mixed use development is the tallest building in Cork and consists of 212 apartments, two storeys of office space and five retail units. As with many multi- occupancy buildings, reducing noise emitted by sanitary installations was a major priority, so Friaphon sound attenuated drainage has been installed for all soil and wastewater drainage requirements. The Bowen Group chose Friaphon over alternative products on the basis of two key factors; cost savings and its excellent sound attenuation properties. Click here to request literature
