Facing finances head on
For many veterinarians, fi nancing can feel like the biggest obstacle to remodeling or building a new hospital. That’s why a Calico Financial representative covers topics including what you need in order to secure fi nancing for your project, how to obtain your credit score, key fi nancial terms and defi nitions, how to build a sample budget, how to determine whether you should purchase real estate or lease, different types of leases to choose from and key questions to think about when reviewing a lease.
The fi nancial management section covers the ins and outs of fi nancial management from a CPA who will cover tax considerations, information about depreciation, leasing equipment, budgeting and things like tracking income, inventory, client invoicing and accounts receivable. After these sections of the program, the fi nance aspect of opening or remodeling your new clinic will no longer be a mystery.
Design - making space for the essentials
Offi ce Design Specialist Michael Reynolds has designed more than 875 veterinary hospitals and uses his section of the GPS program to talk about different design options and things to consider when designing a new practice as well as ways to incorporate equipment and technology into the design. Attendees can expect to learn about the latest equipment, technology and hospital design ideas and what it’s like to work with an architect to help develop fi nal plans. Many attendees leave the event with a clear idea of what technology and equipment they would purchase, and how they want the layout of their future practice to fl ow.
Reaching the peak
Other sections of the program prepare attendees for how to market and run their practice after the building is complete and doors are open for business. By learning about marketing, social media, branding and inventory planning, veterinarians leave with the knowledge to attract new customers, maintain a solid customer base and handle day-to-day operations. Wendy Hennig is an equipment specialist who has been involved with a number of GPS events. “When people come to GPS they’re absolutely blown away by the information and the knowledge they gain by coming here, and it’s not just about building a practice, but it’s about what you do inside that practice that makes them successful,” she said. “Leaving GPS, every single person has the confi dence and knowledge to run a successful practice.”
