I wanted to make sure she would feel comfortable in negotiations with other contractors because this was all new to her,” said Fletcher. This coaching session helped Scherr develop a basic understanding of how to negotiate with other contractors, and with each bid, her confidence grew. “During the process of interviewing contractors, I watched Shani grow in confidence as her knowledge base increased and her questioning of each contractor became more savvy.” Unsurprisingly, the doctors ended up going with Bridgeworks as their contractor.


The right space With the floor plan in place and the contractor selected, the doctors teamed up with Fletcher to pick equipment that would be best suited for Valley Dog & Cat Hospital. Scherr kept in mind the lessons learned from GPS about maximizing revenue while maintaining excellent patient care as they went into the selection process. Scherr and Fletcher focused on things that would produce the most dollars per square foot, knowing that space would be tight in the hospital. “Amanda and I knew going in that we wanted certain equipment, like digital X-ray and a high-speed dental unit. We worked with Matt to go through Patterson’s new practice list and put together our equipment order,” said Scherr. The doctors talked to colleagues, looked online and attended industry tradeshows to educate themselves on the best options available. “I did a lot of research outside of what Matt was telling me, so I knew that his
