Patient Care on Their Own Terms

About 15 minutes outside of Baltimore, Md., is a rapidly growing suburb called Owings Mills. An ideal location for commuters, it’s far enough from the big city that it feels calm, yet it’s close enough that you don’t miss any of the action. And as of April 2015, it’s also the home to Valley Dog & Cat Hospital.

The right time Shani Scherr, DVM, graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and started out working in a private animal hospital. After a couple of years, she moved to a corporate hospital, which is where she met Amanda Morgan, DVM, the veterinarian who would become her future business partner. They developed a strong bond and respect for each other while they worked together, and Scherr approached Morgan about opening a practice together. “I was working long hours, and I wasn’t able to give my patients and clients the time and attention I thought they deserved, so I had the idea of opening my own hospital. I tried to recruit Amanda a couple of times, but the timing just wasn’t right,” said Scherr.
