Getting the right results The results don’t just look good – business has been better than Miller even expected. “Every month has been getting busier and not only have we been profitable, we’ve exceeded sales goals almost every month,” she said. “It’s exciting to be covering our expenses and having a profit, too.” With a full-time technician and two part- time technicians, Miller and her staff are enjoying the calm, relaxing atmosphere. “Everyone is comfortable, easy-going and proficient at their work. We’ve created an environment where staff members, pet owners, and pets are comfortable, and we treat pets like they are our own.”
“I love being a business owner,” said Miller. “It’s so fun and exciting to come to work every day knowing that I’m helping people and helping pets. I’ve always loved my job, but it’s even more fun now that I’m a business owner. I have the ability to implement change.” Miller says that she would tell any other veterinarians thinking about starting a business that there’s always a way to do it. “Reach out to people who are similar to you and ask questions,” she said. “Bounce ideas off other people. Talk to a financial planner and an attorney to get the information you need.” Wise words from a person who sought out the right people, was in the right place, and found the right time to make her dream come true.
