District Meetings Completed for 2016 Incumbants are all nominated, two draw opponents

N

ortheast Oklahoma Electric Cooperative members in three districts gathered this summer and exercised their right to democratic member control. In doing so, they took care of some important cooperative business.

Democratic member control is a unique component of the cooperative process. It is not only a longstanding tradition, but one of the founding principles on which the cooperative form of government was built.

By registering at district meetings and nominating individu- als who they feel are best qualifi ed to represent them on the board of trustees, cooperative members do their part to en- sure the stability of the entire organization for the foreseeable future.

Meetings this year were held in Districts 2, 7 and 9. Members attending the meetings received complimentary refreshments and gifts before helping the co-op take care of business.

NEOEC staff members took time during district meetings to provide updates on various projects throughout the coopera- tive.

Prize drawings were held at the conclusion of each meeting with winners claiming electric bill credits of $250, $100 or $50.

All three incumbent trustees were nominated, in addition to opponents, Andy Stewart and Dr. Doug Cox, for Districts 2 and 9, respectively. As nominees, they now await confi rma- tion or election by the cooperative membership during the general election at annual meeting Saturday, September 17, 2016, at the Grove Civic Center.

Trustee Benny Seabourn hosted the District 2 meeting at Crossroads Church near Fairland on July 25. A total of 90 members registered at the gathering. Local business-owner Andy Stewart and Mr. Seabourn were nominated to run for the District 2 trusteeship. Member Bill Bray had his name drawn

as the winner of the $250 grand prize electric credit, while Lar- ry Stout took home the $100 credit. A third credit of $50 went to Larry Latham.

The District 9 meeting, held at the Grove Community Center, was called to order by trustee Jimmy Caudill on July 26 and attended by 127 members. Mr. Caudill and opponent Dr. Doug Cox were nominated to run for the District 9 position. Wiley Robison was the lucky winner of the $250 grand prize electric credit for District 9. Dennie Ritchie won the $100 credit, and Rufus Sprueill claimed the $50 credit.

Twenty-nine District 7 members gathered with trustee James Wade at the American Legion in Salina on July 28. Prize win- ners at the District 6 meeting included John Baumert who won the grand prize ($250 electric credit) Elizabeth Wolf who took home the $100 electric credit; and Frida Gebhard who won the third place $50 credit. *974457*
