A SUPPLEMENT TO OKLAHOMA LIVING

LIVEWIRE APRIL 2016 | VOLUME 67 ISSUE 4 | PUBLISHED FOR MEMBERS OF TRI-COUNTY ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE

Sale of Transmission Assets

CEO VIEW

Future Plans By Jack L. Perkins

As TCEC members, you are part of a great cooperative. I am proud to have been a small piece of this organization for 37 years. I hope I have helped TCEC to grow and become more member-oriented.

As I announced at the board meeting in March, I plan to retire on January 3, 2017.

Board President Joe Mayer previously sent members a letter announcing the selection of Chief Operating Officer Zac Perkins to lead TCEC upon my retirement. I have faith in Zac’s ability and that of the executive team to lead this cooperative to greater things, with the board’s guidance and input. This is a good cooperative that is well on the way to becoming a great cooperative.

TCEC is already a leader in so many areas but there is still more to be done. The cooperative has great employees who will continue to ensure this cooperative accomplishes big things in the future.

Our members and employees make this cooperative what it is, a leader in our industry. Thank you for allowing me to work for you. I’ve enjoyed it. 

T

he cooperative announced plans to sell its transmission assets to GridLiance in September 2015. On April 1, GridLiance assumed full operational reponsibility of TCEC’s transmission assets, including meeting federal, state and regional compliance requirements. The transmission assets sold comprised approximately 410 miles of 69 and 115 kV transmission lines and the related substation infrastructure. TCEC has retained its distribution lines and substations, which includes more than 4,900 miles of line at lower voltages than the transmission lines. Also, TCEC employees will continue to maintain the transmission assets as part of the agreement with GridLiance. The GridLiance closing also made effective a long-term Co-Development Agreement between the parties, under which GridLiance will represent TCEC

and its members’ interests in planning and development of new transmission projects within the Southwest Power Pool, Inc., a Regional Transmission Organization. “We are excited to be a member of GridLiance’s network, and to move forward with important transmission projects that will improve reliability for our members,” said Jack Perkins, CEO of TCEC. “Joining forces with GridLiance allows us to prioritize distribution system improvements while leaving the upgrading of our transmission assets in GridLiance’s very capable and experienced hands. Equally as important, we look forward to jointly investing with them in transmission projects that were previously inaccessible to us.” See the original news releases regarding the GridLiance acquisition of TCEC transmission at www.tcec.coop.
