SWRE app adds new features

The SWRE app for smart phones and tablets keeps getting better, with more new features to serve the needs of the co-op’s members.

The newest features of the app allow our members to report their outages to SWRE and to monitor probable outages throughout the service territory. NOTE: The app is available for Apple devices (free at the iTunes app store site) or Android devices (free at the Android app store site). At those app sites, search for “Southwest Rural Electric” to locate the SWRE app for download.

Creating an Online Account To use the app, SWRE members must first create an online account for access.

They can do this in the app, but several items MUST match data that is on file with SWRE: 1. The primary account holder’s social security number (last four digits); 2. The primary telephone number; and 3. The primary account holder’s e-mail address. If

outages. Touching a finger to each county

tells how many SWRE members are served in that county and how many accounts the system “projects” to be out of service.

This outage map is a great tool for knowing location and general scope of outages, but two important points must be emphasized. One – The outage map “projects” the number of outages. That is, if it knows there are four or five outages in a given area, it computer projects where other outages may exist and it assigns numbers and locations to those projected outages.

These

projected numbers may be exactly correct, or they may be larger than the actual number. Two – The outage map lists a

number of members served in each county and the number of members affected by each projected outage. In fact, on the map “members” is actually meters.

changed, SWRE must be notified before creation of an online account can proceed. Members must create their own log-in password. Reporting Outages When outages happen, it is important that co-op members report those outages to be sure that the co-op is aware of them. SWRE members may continue to report their outages with a telephone call to 1-800-256-7973. Now, though, outages can also be reported via the SWRE app. The ability to use the app will be particularly useful in widespread outages when many people are reporting at once. SWRE phone lines can handle only a limited number of calls at once. However, many electronic outage reports from the app can be accepted at the same time. To report outages with the app, members will need to log in with their account and if they have more than one SWRE meter, they will need to designate which meter is out.

Outage Map A brand new feature on the app (and coming soon to the SWRE web site) is an outage map. It can be opened by touching the “Outage Map” icon at bottom right of the app screen. SWRE’s 6,000-square-mile service territory spans portions of 11 counties in southwest Oklahoma and north Texas. The online outage map shows each of those counties, with flashing dots indicating current projected

These meters represent many kinds of accounts – homes, fence chargers, water wells, barns, yard lights, etc. It is important to

remember that the number represented does not refer only to homes. Online Bill Pay

For more than a year many SWRE members have been using the app to pay their SWRE bills, set up bill-pay reminders, and monitor electricity usage – all from their smart phone, tablet, or the SWRE website (www.swre.com)! From the app, co-op members can examine past electricity usage by the day. Online Bill Pay from the SWRE web site allows even more detailed analysis of power usage by each account. The SWRE app is easy to use and I encourage members to download it to their smart phones or tablets, create and sign in with an online account, and explore the app’s functions. In the near future we plan to produce some online videos that will demonstrate features of the app and other technological features that will be coming soon to our co-op. We’ll let you know in this newsletter, at our website, and on our Facebook page when those videos are available. At SWRE we are always looking for ways to better serve our co-op’s members. The SWRE app for smart phones and tablets is just one part of our vision of “Safety, Service, Satisfaction… One member at a time.”
