LIFT Opens Detroit Innovation Acceleration Center LIFT: Lightweight Innovations
for Tomorrow (formerly the Ameri- can Lightweight Materials Manu- facturing Innovation Institute), De- troit, has cut the ribbon to officially open its new innovation acceleration center. The 100,000-sq.-ft. facil- ity is part of a national network of research institutions and industrial companies geared toward advancing America’s leadership in manufactur- ing technology. The institute will work with lightweight metals such as aluminum, magnesium, titanium and advanced high strength steel al- loys and focus on new technologies to cast, heat treat, form/shape, join and coat them. It also will facilitate training of workers who will be us- ing these new processes in factories around the country. LIFT is funded by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, with support
