GTWMAKING CONTACT[Blaser] andyourcompanion’s Protectyourears… Although you

should always wear suitable

hearing protection, sometimes it’s not always possible in real hunting situations but

Blaser’sModerator comes to the rescue.

Whenever you are out shooting, there is always a risk to your ears. The hunter must rely on all of their senses and any sudden movement, including adjusting hearing protection, could startle game, so sometimes it’s difficult to put your hearing protection on before taking the shot. There is a solution, however,

with moderators already very common for hunters in the UK and in Scandinavian countries. Not only is the muzzle blast

reduced but felt recoil is also less. Both benefits make for much beter shooting. The moderator also has great advantages in terms of health and safety because the sound of the blast is commonly below the pain threshold of 130dB. In addition, while a hunter

oſten uses ear protection to avoid hearing damage, our loyal companions – the hunting dogs – end up suffering greatly as well from a loud muzzle report.

BLASER STEPS FORWARD The Blaser Moderatorwas developed especially for hunters and their specific requirements. The low-profile design is concentric on the barrel and even allows you to use open sights in combination with the moderator. With its weight of 325g

(0.72lb) it is said to be one of the lightest on the market. A special aluminium alloy

in combination with titanium helps make it highly durable too.

Each of Blaser’s single-barrel

rifles – the R8, K95 or R93 – can be optionally fit ed with the required muzzle thread for a moderator.

56 www.guntradeworld.com This custom threading also

includes a removable cap that protects the muzzle thread when the gun is used without a moderator. Barrels that are fited with a

muzzle thread come with a front sight that is slightly set back (17 millimetres or 0.67 inches). It is also possible to retrofit

the threading and protective cap at a later time. The front sight will be moved back or removed completely on demand.

GETTING IT RIGHT Of course, users need to be aware that once the Blaser Moderator is fited, the rifle might have a different point of impact, so it is vital to zero your gun with the moderator atached. It is also suggested that you

conduct test shots without the moderator on to understand the change in bullet drop.

High shot frequencies in rapid

succession should be avoided because the moderator will get very hot. This also causes a heat mirage to radiate from the moderator and can affect your sight picture. The Blaser Moderator can also

be used for several barrels with the same or smaller calibres, provided they have the required muzzle thread. Keep in mind, though, that the

highest level of noise reduction will only be achieved with a moderator that matches the calibre of the barrel. Blaser also recommends the moderator is removed aſter use and allowed to dry properly before reataching it to the rifle.
