ShockTechnologies has appointed JeffHoffman of Black Hills Ammunition to its board of directors. Jeff’s wife,Kristi, has agreed


to act as a special adviser to the company and will be his designated alternate on the board. Jeff is the president and

co-founder of BlackHills Ammunition, one of themost respected ammomanufacturers in the industry. Te US company has played

an invaluable role in testing Shell Shock’sNAS3 cases and Jeff will be providing board oversight of the development of other cases, including the 5.56mmNATO and the 7.62mmNATO. Early preproductionmodels

of the 5.56mmammo are said to be 45 per cent lighter than brass cases and have nearly seven per centmore powder capacity. Jeff hasmore than 35 years of

experience in the ammunition industry, is a deputy sheriff in SouthDakota, and has served as a sniper on his local Special Response Unit for the last 27 years. Kristi, currently the chief

operating officer at BlackHills, will be working with Shell Shock on various operating issues, including supply chain management and logistical issues. BlackHills currently

supplies all branches of the USmilitary and has become a de facto privately owned R&Dfacility providing innovation and production of specialist ammunition for the


Citizens’ access to firearms in Polandmight be made easier in the future, according to defence ministerAntoniMacierewicz. He recently revealed: “A timewill comewhen it

will be possible to expand access to firearms to a much greater extent.” He added that “an important step in this

direction”was the establishment of the country’s newly approved territorial defence forces, based on volunteers. Firearms “are a great responsibility and one


simply has to learn this responsibility,” he said, during a book fair inWarsawat the end of last year. He added that Polesmust first “go through the

stages ofmaturing to use and possess firearms.” But he suggested that Poland’s current gun

laws could be relaxed in the coming years rather than decades. More than 50,000 people are expected to serve

in Poland’s newterritorial defence forces by 2019, according to the defenceministry.

USweapons systemprovider Sig Sauer is conducting a mandatory replacementof the carriage assembly in itsMCX rifles. Following extensive factory

testing, ithas discovered a conditionmay exist causing an unintended discharge. Sig Sauer stresses that

the problemwas only found in tests – in extremely rare instances – and that the issue has notbeen reported in the field and has been extremely difficult to replicate. Nevertheless, it is concerned

that “failure to followthe loading procedures and basic rules of safe firearms handling outlined in the user’smanual has the potential to cause serious bodily harmordeath.” An official statement added:

“Although this has only been witnessed in 300 blackout, Sig has decided to upgrade all MCXmodels since theMCXis amodularplatformandwe want to ensure the quality and reliability of all productswe manufacture.” Sig says users should no

longeruse the firearms until they have visited itswebsite, registered for the replacement part,viewed an instructional video and changed the assembly for anewone. The firmwill also send users

a $50 giſtvoucher for any inconvenience caused. Sig concluded: “This

upgraded carriage assembly addresses this potential issuewhile enhancing the performance and longevity of your rifle.”
