enerally speaking, an airsoft AEGis a spring-piston gun

with a smallmotor that cocks the piston automatically.A battery is needed to feed energy to the AEG’smotor. Although the standard AEG

gun is fine, many airsoft players like to juice up their guns with batteries, gearboxes andmore, which are better suited to their specific needs.Tis is where these various configurations and technologies come into play.

SHAPESAND SIZES

Airsoft batteries come in very different shapes and sizes. When selecting batteries for your airsoft

gun, make sure they will fit your specific type. Guns with a full-size stock

have a hollow cavity in the stock allowing for ample space to store batteries.Evidently this will not be the case with guns featuring a telescopic or collapsible stock. Here you will need to store

the batteries in, for example, the forend.Tis is why airsoft batteries exist in various configurations to fit all those different gun types. Commonly ‘large’batteries are

a configuration where individual cells are arranged in two columns bundled together.Tese are typically stored in hollow stocks.

‘Nunchuk’ style batteries have

cells in two separate columns connected by a wire.Tis type ismade to be stored in hollow forends. Other types have battery cells

arranged in one long stick. We call these ‘stick’batteries.Tey are designed to fit in AK47-style designs, among others.

BATTERY SPECIFICATION

To avoid comparing apples with pears, one needs to get to grips with two very important specifications found on every battery.Tese are voltage and milliamp hour (mAH). Although they are both vital

for understanding battery performance, they are not dependent on each other. Battery voltage determines

the power output rate of a battery. For example, a 7.2-volt battery will have a lower power output than a 12-volt model. Te latter will greatly increase the firing rate of your AEG. If your gun’s gearbox and

power plant is not up to this kind of power output, though, it will break down quickly.Which is exactly why you should choose your batteries wisely. Standard voltages available

today are 8.4, 9.6 and 10.8 with 7.2 and 12 offering extremes
