Tomb Blaster has a new lease of life at Chessington World of Adventures

the tomb of its evil curse. As many as 560 targets have been added to the ride, disguised as spiders or incorporated in the scenery and decoration (as pictured above). Initially not all targets are active, but once a player hits a certain target, it activates a group of new targets that suddenly appear. This unexpected element provides passengers with an element of surprise. “Both these projects show that it’s not always necessary to invest a lot of

money in new rides and attractions,” observes Beumers. “Updating an existing dark ride is a great alternative. Our systems hardly ever break down because there are no mechanical wearing parts; that's very important for parks when it comes to maintenance and running costs.” As demand for interactive dark rides continues to increase and parks become more knowledgable about the types of systems on the market, Lagotronics Projects has expanded its operations recent years, adding new staff in both its engineering and game development departments. “By keeping it all in-house, it keeps costs down and enables to make

really great games that work perfectly with our systems,” says Beumers. “For parks that want to incorporate their own characters or stories, we have developed a platform that acts as the foundation for any game. And, by adding a few graphics on top, we are able to create some fantastic custom games very efficiently. This saves the customer an enormous amount of time and cost.” Beumers believes new innovations in interactive dark rides are helping

fuel the renewed interest in these rides. For example, Lagotronics Projects now offers a wide range of controllers. In addition to the cannons and handheld devices, there also offers swipe control and gesture control systems. Last year the company joined forces with the Ride Entertainment Group

(REG) to serve as its North American representative. Speaking of the partnership, REG chief business development officer Adam Sandy says: "We’ve been looking to add a technological component to our portfolio and are thrilled to partner with Lagotronics Projects. Their combination of innovation, technology and reliability are why we feel their potential is limitless.”
