Six Flags announces new park plans for
China Six Flag Entertainment has signed a letter of agreement with its Chinese partner the Riverside Group to build two parks in what is believed to be one of the world's largest cities.
The US-based operator, which is already
developing a park in Haiyan near Shanghai, plans to develop both an amusement park and a waterpark in Bishan, a district of Chongqing boasting a surrounding population of approximately 120 million people. “Developing two parks in Chongqing, the
most populous municipality in China, is another step forward in executing our long- term strategy to expand our brand outside of North America and bring Six Flags thrills to millions of new guests,” says the company's president and CEO, John Duffey. “As the exclusive strategic partner of Six Flags in China, we are excited about the development of two parks in Chongqing of western China, the biggest city in the world,” adds Riverside Group chairman, Li Zhe. “With the ongoing support of the Chinese government and the strength of the Six Flags brand, we are confident these projects will provide strong economic growth.” The letter of agreement for the parks in Chongqing is subject to negotiation of definitive documents. Together Six Flags and the Riverside Group plan to develop multiple Six Flags-branded parks in China. The first is anticpated to open in Haiyan, Zhejiang province, in 2019. For more information see

Terror 2.0 Guardians of the Galaxy makeover for California attraction
he Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney's California Adventure is set for a fresh look next summer when it gets a Marvel makeover as
Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Guests at the park in Anaheim (part of the
Disneyland Resort) will be invited to enter the fortress-like museum of the mysterious “Collector”, who is keeping the Guardians of the Galaxy as prisoners. Boarding a gantry lift, riders will be launched into an adventure as they join Rocket Raccoon in an attempt to set free his fellow Guardians. Set to open in summer 2017, Mission: BREAKOUT! will enhance Tower of Terror's free fall sensation with new visual and
audio effects to create a variety of ride experiences. Disney California Adventure guests will experience multiple, random and unique ride profiles in which the rise and fall of the gantry moves to music inspired by the soundtrack to Marvel's 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy.
SkySpire Set for San Diego
A 480ft/146m-tall SkySpire observation tower from ThrillCorp is featured as the anchor attraction of an $1.2 billion project proposed for the waterfront of San Diego, California. Designed by AVRP/Skyport Studios, the SkySpire will be an iconic addition to the San Diego waterfront and skyline. It features gondolas that spiral around the tower as they transport guests to a top level interactive observation experience to be designed in partnership with Smithsonian Media. Also featured as part of the redevelopment plans endorsed by the San Diego Port Authority Commission are an aquarium, bay front beaches, hotels, marinas, retail, dining and other entertainment in a district that makes the most of its waterfront location. ThrillCorp is a partner in a consortium called 1HWY1, led by Protea
Waterfront Development. The winning proposal was one of 11 received for the 70-acre site, which Protea spokesman Yehudi Gaffen describes as “unquestionably one of the best waterfront sites in the United States that when completed will redefine experiential urban, mixed-use development and make San Diego a truly world class city”.
