The drones in use in Cinéscénie

Brings on

the drones! Puy do Fou's secret new weapon

flagship live show Cinéscénie and will continue to light up the sky this summer during the night time spectacular. Originally intended to debut las year, the drones have finally been approved by

T

the French Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and were developed at a cost of €3 million in partnership with the Nantes-based company Pixiel, a specialist in the use of drones for civilian purposes. With complex programming, the Neopters are able to locate space independently and fly as a coordinated fleet. They are the world’s first drones permitted to fly above an audience in a live show. Soaring 60 metres into the sky, the drones are invisible at night. With a carefully calculated weight to power ratio, they are able to fly with set pieces such as lights of up to 2kg. This technology enables the Neopters to enhance the spectacle of Puy du Fou’s live shows, working in perfect synchronisation with the existing use of music, video, actors and lighting, creating another way that Puy du Fou can bring stories to life for its audience. Puy du Fou now plans to export the Neopters technology across the globe. See

Barry's fresh Shot for 2016

This Airborne Shot ride from the SBF/Visa Group is new for 2016 at Barry's Amusements in Portrush, Northern Ireland. Located inside the entrance to the popular indoor/outdoor park near the Giant's Causeway, the ride replaces a KMG Experience, which had previously been adapted specially for the building. Other attractions at the facility run by the Trufelli family include a Pinfari Looping Coaster and Big Apple, IE Park Turtle Splash (flume), KMG Freak Out, Moser Spring Ride, plus the Ghost Train, Carousel, Cyclone, Dodgems, mini Dodgems and a wide range of arcade machines. They also do nice ice cream (that'll be the Italian influence).

Credit where it's due

An unusually-themed ride is touring California festivals this summer as part of a “brand outreach” strategy by the company Credit Karma. The Strike-U-Up ride from Skyline Attractions, as seen at IAAPA Attractions Expo in 2014, combines the fun of a high striker with the thrill of a mini tower ride. Now, as a result of the deal with Credit Karma, carnival-goers are also encouraged to check their credit score. “The idea of credit scores is not particularly exciting, so we wanted to associate

Credit Karma with something much more fun and accessible,” says Sam Port of advertising company Proscenium. “With its height, colourful branded design and interactivity, the ride has caused festival-goers to stop in their tracks ...perfect when trying to promote positive brand awareness.” The Credit Karma-

branded attraction has so far appeared at California events including San Diego Cinco De Mayo Festival, Los Angeles Gay Pride and the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. Based in Orlando, Skyline Attractions is represented by the Ride Entertainment Group.

Triple towers for Hersheypark

In what could be viewed as a massive three-pronged advertising billboard, Hersheypark, Hershey, Pennsylvania, will install a triple tower ride complex for the 2017 season from S&S Worldwide. Named, appropriately enough, the Hershey Triple Tower, the configuration is the first

of its kind in the US, comprising a 12-seat Double Shot Tower standing 80ft-tall (24m), a 16-seat Double Shot Tower of 131ft/40m and one 20-seat Space Shot/Turbo Drop Tower standing 189ft or 58m. Each tower is named after a different Hershey's chocolate brand – Hershey's Kisses, Reese's Cups and simply Hershey's itself. Situated on the park's Kissing Tower Hill, Triple Tower's total elevation will be boosted by its hilltop location.

The sponsored ride appears at San Diego Cinco De Mayo Festival
