BESA Awards turn spotlight on young learners
T
he Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) has unveiled its 2026 Industry Awards shortlist, placing a strong focus on youth education and emerging talent across the building services sector. The 21-category scheme recognises individuals, teams and companies delivering standout projects, products and initiatives that advance competence, compliance, building safety and decarbonisation. Winners will be announced at the BESA Awards dinner on 22 October at The Brewery, Chiswell Street, following the Association’s Annual Conference earlier that day. Mitsubishi Electric is headline sponsor, supported by several category sponsors.
This year sees the introduction of a new Trainee
of the Year Award, sponsored by Milwaukee, alongside BESA’s established apprentice categories covering specialist trades including refrigeration, air conditioning, and facilities and energy
management. The Rising Star Award, sponsored by Mikroper, also returns to celebrate exceptional young talent.
BESA has additionally introduced travel bursaries, funded by the Manly Trust, to help apprentices and young engineers attend the Conference and Awards. Finalists from the
WorldSkills UK Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump competition, sponsored by BAXI, will also be honoured.
“With all the talk about a ‘lost
generation’ of young people struggling to fi nd work, we felt our best contribution would be to put even more impressive young workers in the spotlight and celebrate their achievements,” said Charlie Ward, BESA’s senior group events and partnership manager.
