Editor’s note T
Adapting to tough environmental demands
he ACR News Awards 2026 were held in March and showcased an upbeat industry in rapid transition – see the full coverage inside this issue.
T at sense of momentum runs through every major story this month. From the push to cut Scope 2 and 3 emissions through
smarter heat-transfer fl uid choices, to the UK’s tightening grip on chemicals and refrigerant management, the sector is being asked to rethink long-established practices across entire product lifecycles.
Engineers are also navigating a new generation of polyvalent chillers that heat as eff ectively as they cool, bringing fresh maintenance demands alongside effi ciency gains. And as the phasedown faces acceleration, the search for practical, non-fl ammable alternatives to high-GWP refrigerants continues, particularly for the millions of systems still operating on R134a.
Together, these developments all point in one direction – the technical decisions made today will shape environmental performance, compliance and operational resilience for years to come.
