Day in the life Day of care

Rish Amod, Promedica24 franchisee for Windsor, Maidenhead and Marlow since April 2016, reveals a typical day

7.00am Time to wake up! Prior to my Promedica24 business, I used to be a teacher, which meant getting up at 6am, so a 7am start always feels like a treat. The fi rst thing I do is grab a cup of coff ee

and fi re up the computer, which I keep by the bed. As I sip my coff ee, I look through the news with a focus on healthcare, the NHS, and any other care industry news. I also update my Facebook page, which I’m starting to get some traction with now.

8.00am

I sit down to eat breakfast, which usually consists of a hearty helping of oats and blueberries followed by an omelette.

8.30am

Now I’m fuelled for the day, I can really get to work. This hour and a half I’ll use to respond to emails, contact prospective multipliers and make lots of phone calls and set appointments for later in the week or month.

10.00am

This is when I usually hop in the car to go networking in my territory. Networking is a crucial part of my business, getting out there and introducing our 24-hour live-in care services to doctors, nurses, care workers, shops, centres, fi nancial advisors and charities – anyone who comes into contact with the elderly. Once they know about us and understand what we do, they actively recommend us to their patients, families and friends. Every day varies though, and today took me out of my usual networking routine to pick up two carers who will be living with a new client. I like to be there every step of the way for our carers, clients and their families. I went into the client’s home with the new carers and introduced them to the client and care manager. The family was also there, which is nice to see. I stuck around to make sure everyone was happy and comfortable and had a good chat. I’ll be in touch over the next few days and weeks to see how they are getting on, as will the care manager.

12.00pm

I tend to eat lunch on-the-go to save time. I’ll do some more networking, whether it’s introducing the company to some more

businesses, or popping in to catch up with old contacts and ensure they’ve got enough literature.

2pm-4.30pm

I try to make appointments for this time, as I have found it tends to be a good time for independent fi nancial advisers and domiciliary care providers. I try to plan my networking and appointments as best I can to ensure I optimise my time in a particular area. My territory spans a large distance, so, if I can, I try to avoid taking too many trips across it in one day. This said, it doesn’t matter how much planning I do, if I get a call from a potential new client, then that comes fi rst. There’s an element of urgency in our line of work, so I need to act fast and ensure I can arrange an initial assessment within a day, two maximum.

4.30pm

I head home around this time. Again, I use this time to catch up on phone calls and regroup my thoughts from the day.

6.00pm I arrive home and the fi rst thing I do is say

hello to my family. Sometimes my wife is working late as she is a nurse, but if she’s at home we’ll sit down and have a chat about our days. We’ll have some food together and depending on the day, I take my 13-year-old stepson to his activities.

7.00pm

I head to the gym to clear some headspace and get some exercise – ‘healthy body, healthy mind’ and all that!

8.30pm

When I get home, I’ll sit down and add all my networking information from the day to the CRM system. This helps me to keep on top of my appointments, and ensures I know exactly who I’ve seen, when I need to follow up with them and what action I, or they, should be taking.

10.30pm A fi nal snack before a night’s rest. It’s the end of another rewarding day, ready to start again tomorrow.
