Travel and tourism is the largest
services export industry for the U.S.. According to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce, visitor volume in 2016 is expected to end the year down 0.9 percent compared to the 2015 record 77.5 million visitors who stayed one or more nights in the U.S.. If the National Travel and Tourism Office forecast is realized, this would be the first decline in total arrivals to the United States since 2009. 2017 is actually expected to reverse this decline and the NTTO forecasts a 2.4 percent increase and a new volume record of 78.6 million visitors. However, much depends upon currency fluctuations, and the strength of the global economy, not to mention our political climate.

the rhetoric about America First, it is apparent that the U.S. needs to keep aviation and aerospace/defense pretty much as it stands today: an economic titan that brings in lots of export revenue and employs many people at good salaries.
Every now and then, a good shaking up is needed for all of us, but let’s hope it is only a mild one at the moment. Air transport is a reasonably healthy economic engine for the country, so let’s keep it that way.
